Part-Time Personal Trainer Job in Saint Paul, MN

WE’RE HIRING: Part-Time Fitness/Sport Performance Coach/Personal Trainer in Geeky, Fun-as-Heck Fitness Training Facility

THE SCOOP:

THIS POSTING IS FOR AN AFTERNOON/EVENING SHIFT TRAINER POSITION. FOR FULL TIME POSITION PLEASE CLICK HERE

Alright Twin Cities, we’re looking for one dynamic, driven, detail-oriented individual to “get on the bus” with a growing fitness training and sport performance company that is “changing the game.”

Here’s the deal, we transform people’s lives. We’re serious about our fitness & our methodology, in fact, we’re on a first-name basis with some of the biggest names in the industry (don’t worry, we’ll teach you everything you need to know), but we also love holding team meetings at comic book shops.

We’re okay making fun of ourselves and we are, or at least try to be, the best part of our members’ day, every day.

We’re here to help transform lives (maybe yours!) and give fun, dedicated, driven Twin Cities people some of the best jobs in the fitness industry.

EVERY COACHING POSITION STARTS WITH A 60 DAY PAID APPRENTICESHIP/PROBATIONARY PERIOD

Let’s be honest, if you’re a racehorse, you don’t want to work with donkeys.

We’re protective of our people (both our members AND our team of “employees”) and incredibly protective of the pretty amazing culture we’ve developed here.

This means we do more than look at a resume to determine if you’re a fit.

If you’re a driven, ambitious, future high performer–this should excite you! You’ll be working with awesome, driven people that know how to have a blast… not with someone who passed a joke of an exam after a weekend workshop that was more of a test of whether or not their credit card was valid than if they’re ready to coach actual humans.

The 60 day paid apprenticeship period is a ramp up period where we put you through our intensive coaching curriculum and get you ready for the “show”.

If we’re not a fit to work together, we can part as friends, if we are, you’ll be ready to be a full-fledged member of the team by the end of your apprenticeship (awesome!)

IF…

If you’re looking for a quick buck as you take some time to look for your dream job elsewhere, this isn’t the position for you… But if you’re competitive, looking for an opportunity to grow, and want to make an impact on people’s lives every single day, this just may be the shot you’ve been looking for.

HOW THIS WORKS

Candidates that make it through our initial process (email/cover letter/resume, phone interview, in person interview(s), and more) will enter into a 60-day coaching apprenticeship.

Frankly, it’s not the easiest process to get through. We aren’t looking for your run-of-the-mill “big box gym” clipboard holder “they” call a personal trainer, cool?

We’re looking for someone that gets GIDDY about the idea of watching awesome people hit their goals–whether it’s helping a once frustated soccer mom lose 20 pounds or helping an athlete make varsity, you’re PUMPED about the idea of playing a part in other people’s progress.

We maintain a small coaching team & our philosophy is to create CAREERS in this industry for great people who fit our culture. This means giving you full-time hours, better than average pay, opportunity to grow and develop, and opportunity to contribute outside the x’s and o’s of training for the right candidates.

FIST BUMPS AND FRIENDSHIPS

You’ll find a lot of those here, but it ain’t all sunshine and rainbows.

It’s going to take some serious work on your part.

If you think this is easy … if you sleepwalk through your work … if you can’t invest the mental and physical energy it takes to get the details right … if you resent & roll your eyes honest, well-meant criticism … and if you’re going to cut and run the first time the going gets tough, there’s not much I or anyone else can do to help you. BUT, if you know that building something AWESOME that MEANS SOMETHING to your community is worth a few sleepless nights, and if you are willing to take the time and expend the energy to do it right …If you are eager to pour 110 percent of your genius, your creativity and your effort into this … and if you’ll obsess about the minute details that MUST be paid attention to … If you’re actually taking the time to read this and put the word viking into your application email … If you’re willing to expend every ounce of mental and physical energy at your command … take your best shot … accept the consequences … take a hard, honest look at what you did right and what you did wrong … and learn your lessons … And if, you are willing to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and do it better next time … There’s no stopping you.

YOUR DEVELOPMENT (what we’ll teach you, and eventually grade you, on)

The next paragraph is important as heck. Read it.

*****You do NOT, repeat DO NOT (!) have to be a certified trainer/coach OR have training experience to apply for this position.

Our coach development program will take you into the top 1% of coaches ANYWHERE once you finish our curriculum as a part of your apprenticeship.

You ARE NOT guaranteed a position after your 60 day apprenticeship is complete, but 100% of the coaches we have decided NOT to bring on have gone on to find jobs at other facilities in the community.*****

That said, here’s the deal, our program is designed to fully develop you to become one of the best coaches/leaders in any organization.

You will initially be mentored and critiqued based upon 6 criteria:

Communication & Teaching
You’ll learn how to communicate effectively and learn exactly how to effectively articulate and instruct the technique and execution of each movement. You’ll learn how to connect with different types of clients and do it all in settings ranging from one on one interaction to groups of up to 20 clients at a time.

Seeing
You ability to identify all gross and subtle faults.
Your skill set to distinguish good movements from bad movements. i.e. that looks like it’ll sever a spine vs. that’s an awesome looking squat!

Correcting
Your ability to communicate understandable visual, verbal and tactile cues to correct movements. Basically, you can help people fix their effed up movements.

You’ll grow your skill set to determine if your cues are working, and if not, what is a better way to communicate?

You’ll grow a determination to be relentless about migrating toward perfect form/technique AND learn how to not be a butthead and do it without making your clients hate you.

Presence and Attitude
Your ability to speak loudly and clearly at all times above the background noise of (awesome) music, the dropping of weights, the grunting of members … all within a stupid-high-energy environment.

Your skill set to command and control a crowd, showing your confidence, all the while being respectful.

Your energy should be contagious, encouraging and fun. Your clients should love having you at the head of the class, and smile when they see your car in the lot when they pull up.

You celebrate the heck out of even the tiniest improvements in your clients along the way and make them feel like you genuinely care about their success… because you ACTUALLY care.

You’re aware of, and you respond to the diversified experience levels of athletes.

You engage athletes by using their first name (or, cough, hilarious nickname when appropriate), make eye contact and make them feel like the vital part of our community they are.

Your natural enthusiasm and excitement invests itself in the success of the DSC Family.

Managing Groups
Your ability to organize all of the elements of running a class.

Your skill set to foster and maintain the classes unity and interests.

You manage your time well by prioritizing contents of class:

You give proper time for class warm up …
Explain and demonstrates movements of the daily workout …
Allots time for the workout itself …
Allows for equipment set up time, and …
Ensures time for proper cool down and stretching.

Demonstration
Your ability to demonstrate proper form, function and execution of exercises.
Your skill set to teach proper exercise progressions, using full movements at performance speed.
You keep consistency of verbal cues and visual demonstrations.
You exhibit awareness of your own movement, being knowledgable of your limitations and faults.
Your ability to teach the movement, see the movement and correct the movement.

From there, your responsibilities may grow to include:

Opening and/or closing the facility
Coach/co-coach and manage classes of up to 20
Coach athlete & adult training sessions
Responsible for the cleanliness of the facility
Do in person, face-to-face sales & introductions into our community
Run your own specialty programs with a population you’re passionate about
Grow your personal brand within the fitness community
And much, much more!
